What a holiday weekend at the Tennessee Lottery! Two lucky winners, one who purchased a ticket in Chattanooga and the other in Nashville, won $250,000 each after Friday's Mega Millions drawing, which now has a whopping jackpot of $206 million. Saturday's Powerball drawing brought even more fortune for a player in Memphis who won $1 million by matching five white numbers and using the Powerball Power Play. Yet another lucky Powerball player in Kingsport matched five white numbers (without Power Play) to win $200,000! Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot of $128.8 million was won by a player in Maryland. 14 PLAYERS WIN OVER $1 MILLION WITH NON-WINNING INSTANT TICKETS
Fourteen lucky Tennessee Lottery players won a total of more than $1 million in cash prizes by simply entering eligible non-winning instant tickets into last week’s Play it Again! drawing, including a sawmill worker from Henry (in west Tennessee) who won $250,000. “I sure do appreciate it!” said Tim Carroll, 47, who entered a non-winning Jingle Jumbo Bucks ticket and claimed his prize today at the Lottery’s Nashville headquarters. “That’s just about the greatest thing I’ve heard!” Mr. Carroll said the first thing he will do is pay some bills and have an especially happy holiday.

Bigger! Better! More! The Tennessee Lottery’s “new” Powerball game launches on January 15, 2012 and will feature bigger jackpots, better odds and is expected to create more million-dollar winners. December 14 begins the “rolldown” towards that launch, the necessary process of steadily reducing the number of consecutive drawings a player may purchase at one time. This Wednesday will be the last day to purchase a multi-draw Powerball ticket for 10 consecutive drawings. After the December 14 Powerball drawing, the number of multi-draws players can purchase will decrease by one after each drawing occurs through January 14, 2012. Once the “new” Powerball begins on January 15, players will again be able to purchase a multi-draw ticket for 10 consecutive drawings.

LOTTERY HITS ANOTHER RECORD MONTH November sales approach $100 million, follows October record
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation today announced that Lottery ticket sales in November 2011 were the highest of any November since the Lottery’s inception in 2004. This milestone follows on the heels of a similar record-breaking performance in October of this year. Driven by growth in instant tickets, gross sales for November of this year reached $99,664,000, a robust increase of 6.4% - nearly $5.4 million - over the previous November record set in 2010.

The Tennessee Lottery today presented a $200,000 Powerball prize to a Sumner County man whose winning ticket was allegedly stolen by two convenience store clerks on June 3, 2011. The clerks were arrested and the pending case is set for preliminary hearing on December 14 in Sumner County General Sessions Court.

MAIL DELIVERY RETURNS $50,000 MISSING LOTTERY TICKET
It was just an ordinary envelope delivered in the mail to the Tennessee Lottery’s headquarters in Nashville. But when Lottery officials looked inside, they found a winning ticket worth $50,000. Luckily for John Holder of Columbia, his signature was on the back of the ticket. “I’m speechless,” said Mr. Holder, 45, a former roofer. “It’s good to know someone had a conscience and decided to give this back to me.” The white, letter-sized envelope carrying the winning ticket lacked a return address and had the number “50,000” written on the outside. No message was included other than the words “lost and found” written on a piece of notebook paper folded inside. It was post-marked Nashville, TN. After verifying the signature and Mr. Holder’s identification, the ticket was validated. Lottery officials then awarded him his prize.

LOTTERY SETS NEW RECORD FOR SALES, FUNDS TO EDUCATION Sales up 4.2 percent, HOPE Scholarships and other education programs funded at a record $293.5 million
Countering a sluggish economy, the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation has set new records for its fiscal year, announcing what will be an all-time high transfer of $293.5 million to education programs in the state, an increase of $4.6 million over last year’s previous record. The Lottery also reports a record-breaking $1.19 billion in total sales, an impressive 4.2 percent increase over the previous year. The new total generated for education since ticket sales began in January 2004 now stands at $2.07 billion, while total sales have reached $7.8 billion.
